First International Convention of the RBS

Rome, September 15-18, 2008

The Gregorian University where the First International Convention will be held

With the aim of being a privileged means of meeting and interacting with others involved in this work, the convention is intended above all for those who practice Biblical-Semitic rhetorical analysis (which must be differentiated from the application of classical Greek-Latin Rhetoric to the biblical texts).

The convention is open, however, to all those interested in this way of approaching the biblical text (and other Semitic texts, especially the Koran), for which the phenomena of composition constitute the entrance point to their meaning.

The first conference has been requested of Cardinal Vanhoye, pioneer in the field of biblical rhetorical analysis, above all with regard to the Letter to the Hebrews, and Honorary President of the RBS; other recognised scholars will intervene, although these interventions will not be confined to the strict application of rhetorical analysis

Meals

The Pontifical Gregorian University (PUG) is surrounded by numerous restaurants. The Cafeteria of the University offers a simple and convenient service, although only at lunch-time.

Sightseeing

We will take advantage of the location of the Convention, in the beautiful city of Rome. The Gregorian University is situated in the centre of the Eternal City, a few steps from the Trevi Fountain and just below the presidential palace of the Quirinal. Wednesday afternoon a guided tour of a particularly significant monument will be offered.

Accommodation

It is advisable to make reservations as soon as possible: it is very difficult to find a place not far from the centre of the city as the last moment. Besides hotels, (which are easily to be found via Internet), here is a list of convenient possibilities:

Publication of the Acts of the Convention

Although not as yet foreseen, it is not impossible that the Acts of the Convention be published. In any case, they will be available on the Web site of the RBS: www.retoricabiblicaesemitica.org
